Abstract

There are many possible ways of changing the wind into useful energy. For instance, the wind turbines make the mechanical power from the wind, which can be used to drive electrical generators, to pump water or air, or to perform other useful work. The wind is a clean, inexhaustible source of energy, and though it is intermittent and relatively dilute in nature as compared to fossil and nuclear fuels, it can be changed into a huge, practically untapped energy resource. In this research, 1.4 meter horizontal axis wind turbine and 0.75 meter vertical axis wind turbine were designed and made. The performance of these devices was tested. Also, the effects of the chord length and number of blades on the performance of vertical wind turbine were tested.
