Abstract

In order to know the posibility of utilization of shape memory alloy wire for actuator, fundamental properties of Ni-Ti alloy wire were investigated, experimentally. About 0.15mm diameter Ni-Ti wire was used.
Main results obtained are as follows.
(1) Within proper amount of electric current (0.3-0.5A), this wire showed a stable bidirectional shape memory effect. Above this current range, bidirectional shape memory effect disappeared.
(2) In combination of shape memory alloy wire with spring, adequate amount of force and work were generated.
(3) From these results, it was estimated that this shape memory alloy wire could be used in actuator.
