Abstract

We fabricated the aluminium alloy matrix composite reinforced with aluminium borate whiskers by the squeeze casting. With the scanning electron microscope and analyzer the change of microstructure and magnesium content distribution in the composite with heating were invetigated. Furthermore the change of the lattice distance in the matrix and interaction between the solute element and whisker were investigated with X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscope. Microprosity in the composite are coarsoned and spheroidized with heating. The distribution of magnesium in the as cast composite are homogenized and lattice distance is changed with heating. Spinel compounds are observed on the whisker surface extracted from the as cast composite.
