Abstract

A6061 aluminium alloy matrix composite reinforced with aluminium-borate ceramics whisker was fabricated by squeeze casting and then its aging phenomina and fatigue properties were evaluated. Mg concentration in the composites decrease and intermetallic compounds is produced by interact of aluminium-borate whisker and molten aluminium alloys. Aging hardenability with the composite is accelerated but slightly. Fatigue limit of the composites is higher with increasing the volume fraction of aluminium-borate whisker.
