Abstract

A 6061 aluminium alloy matrix composite reinforced with aluminium-borate whisker was fabricated by squeeze casting and then its aging phenomina and fatigue properties were evaluated. By means of the X-ray microanalysis it was related that Mg and Cu concentration in the composites decrease. As solution treated composite has the highest fatigue limit and next higher one is the aged composites and then as cast composite is low. Fatigue limit of the composite was more accelerated with increasing aluminium-borate whisker. Aging hardenability with the composite of which has 30% volume fraction of aluminium-borate whisker is slightly and that of 38% volume fraction is not obtained.
