Abstract

The mass transfer of oxygen from air to aqueous solution and the fractional gas hold-up, εG, were studied by blowing air at higher bubble frequencies from upward vertical nozzle into the solution. The experimental results are summarized as follows. (1) As the Reynolds number of gas flow at the orifice, ReN, seal height, hL, and reaction vessel diameter, dr.v., increased, the product of the interfacial area and the liquid-film mass transfer coefficient, SkL, increased. (2) Gas hold-up, εG, increased with ReN, but decreased with hL and dr.v.. (3) When hL and dr.v. were constant, SkL was expressed as follows. SkL=396εG(1.304) (4) εG obtained in this work was higher than those obtained in the previous works. (5) Furthermore, εG, hL, dr.v. and ReN were correlated to SkL as follows. SkL=0.0860εG(1.304) hL(1.814) dr.v.(1.465) ReN(0.0394)
