Abstract

In the previous paper, mainly about the fatigue crack initiation part and its propagation path in dissimilar welded joints having the different angle between maximal principle stress direction and welding direction was described. The stress intensity factor has been shown to be a useful parameter in the study of fatigue crack propagation and it is well known. Then, authors have studied in this paper on the relation between the fatigue crack propagation rate in each structure parts of dissimilar welded joint and the stress intensity factor. As the result of this investigation, fatigue crack propagation rate in decarburized part has been found to be more speedy than the rate in parent metal. On the other hand, very hard carburized part was found to reduce the crack propagation rate and marked retardation in crack propagation rate occurred at the time the tip of crack reached the carburized part.
