Abstract

The deformation analysis was performed for the box-type steel connector on timber frame structures using the elastic-plastic finite-element method(FEM). The development of the plastic deformation zone was shown through the FEM analysis. The results indicated that the load vs. displacement relationship of the connector was markedly influenced by the base-plate thickness. Moreover, for optimum design of this connector, it was important that the side-plate thickness was almost the same as the base-plate thickness.
